Summer Term 2009 - Week 7

Off to France the Third and Fourth went early on Tuesday morning to speak French, eat French food, interview French locals and partake in “The French Trip’s got Talent!” The children and staff return tonight and so I am sure there will be many stories and photos to catch up on tomorrow morning over breakfast!
The rest of the school has still been busy this week though. Last Monday six girls took part in the IAPS regional athletics championships at K2. They all did incredibly well, with many taking part in more than one discipline. Imogen came 5th in both the long jump and shot put, Uri came 5th in the long jump for her age group but huge congratulations must go to Jasmine who came 2nd in the 400m and Pauline who came 1st in the long jump and the 100m! Both of these girls have now been invited to take part in the National Championships in Birmingham next Monday – fingers crossed!
Despite a great number of the team being in France, eight U11’s took part in Lancing’s eight-a-side cricket festival. They all played incredibly well and had a fantastic day and came a very respectable third.
On Friday it was the boys turn to take part in the IAPS regional athletics. There was a lot of competition but the boys held strong and did very well. Joe came fifth in the high jump in the U14; Josh came 4th in the cricket ball throw for the U9’s; Frankie came 6th in the 400m and our U14 100m relay team came a fantastic 4th – making them the 4th fastest in the county!
On Saturday we were lucky to have a visiting team from Pinewood School, Berkshire come and play out 1st XI cricket team. It was a brilliant match with some superb fours and excellent catches. Pinewood played very well and won the game by a fair few runs but it was a pleasure to host them and we hope that they will visit us again next year. The girls went to Ashdown to play in a rounders tournament; they did very well and came a well-earned third.
This coming week we look forward to:
Tuesday: Cricket vs Handcross Park (1st)
Cricket vs Fonthill Lodge (Colts A)
Wednesday: Cricket vs Dorset House
Rounders vs Skippers Hill
Thursday: Tennis Team are off to Wimbledon – to watch!
Cricket vs Ardingly (1st)
Friday: A well-deserved exeat!
Photos this week is of the Gordounstoun Challenge – one of the challenges was to make a paper bike!
