Everyone is refreshed and raring to go after a super half-term break. It’s been a busy and successful week as we start the second half of the Easter term.

Two 6th form pupils take their Scholarship exams in the coming week:  Roger to Uppingham and George to Worth.  We wish them well.

Congratulations to Thomas (Form 3H) who achieved 2nd place in the Speech & Drama section of the Eastbourne Performing Arts Festival.  Thomas was in the under 13s age group and performed a modern monologue “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” by Charles M Schulz.

UK Maths Challenge

Congratulations to Yoon Jae who won a gold award at the Maths Challenge, also to Roger and George who both won bronze awards.   All three were placed in a Maths Challenge group for the under 16s so this really is a splendid achievement.

There was a fantastic trip to CineWorld on Sunday to see Gnomeo and Juliet, an imaginative re-working of the Bard’s tragic tale crossed with an Elton John rock opera.  Mr Lawley took fourteen keen cross-country runners around Buchan Park and Mr Elliott chaired a dynamic balloon debate, which was won by Miley Cyrus (Jazzy W-T).

The whole school has been involved in preparations for the Poetry Declamation on Wednesday 2nd March.  Wednesday night sees performances of each form’s poem as well as two pupils from each form reciting a poem.

Excitement is mounting for the Annual Concert on Saturday March 5th.  Rehearsals for the concert with its 1970s theme are going very well and the children are brimming with enthusiasm.  The school choir has been re-named the Whole School Choir and every child will be on stage.
And finally... like all newborns, these are receiving a lot of attention!  The first chick hatched early today (Saturday) with two others rushing to follow.  There’s no shortage of eager carers for them as we await the arrival of the last three chicks.
