Newsletter - Lent Term, 12.01.18

A warm welcome awaits everyone as they return from the Christmas break and we look forward to a term filled with energy, as well as the approach of longer, light-filled days.

Our senior pupils will be preparing for their Scholarship examinations to a range of top public schools including Marlborough College, Wellington College, Harrow, Benenden and Worth Abbey. Our pupils will also be working hard towards their Common Entrance Examinations trials, all of which take place during February and March.  They will have a welcome respite from their endeavours with a trip to The Lion King early in the term.
Our World Awareness Week series continues with a focus on Thailand and a wide range of cross-curricular activities are planned as pupils enhance their knowledge across many subject disciplines.
Wildlife photographer Fergus Beeley is a new addition to our visiting lecturer series and will give Cottesmorians a fascinating glimpse into life as a wildlife conservationist and film maker.
Our full sporting fixtures calendar gets under way on the first weekend of term with rugby and netball matches and as the term progresses there will be also be hockey fixtures, real tennis and swimming events. The Carson Cup cross-country run rounds off the term with a great deal of friendly rivalry in this whole-school event.
The chess teams will limber up for our annual Chess Congress with a tournament at Brambletye before the 41st Cottesmore Chess Congress takes place in March, when we look forward to welcoming the top young players from prep schools across Sussex.
The Music department’s concert is always a highlight in the Easter term calendar and will showcase both individual and group performances, while at the end of this term new choristers are admitted to the Chapel Choir in a moving and memorable service.
Hobbies, activities and trips will give Cottesmorians opportunities to recharge their batteries and relax with friends.  There’s always plenty of choice for activities at school and a number of trips are planned.
Pre-prep News
There’s a busy term ahead for the smallest members of our community and we look forward to hearing all their class news soon. Among the events planned for all the pupils in the Pre-prep are a theatre workshop as well as a very special Mother’s Day assembly.
Staff News
Four new Australian gap students are joining us this term and we bid them all g’day and welcome.

This term’s Open Morning will be held on Saturday February 24th from 1000-1200.  A warm welcome awaits all who are considering their son or daughter’s education.  Our Open Mornings create a special opportunity to visit Cottesmore, meeting both staff and pupils, and chatting in an informal setting.
