Easter Half Term Newsletter 2011

We are now racing towards Easter with lots of wonderful events behind us and so much to look forward to.

Some highlights from this first half of term were: a fascinating talk on falconry; a visit from Ben Foden the England rugby player, who came for a coaching session with the Colts, as well as the inaugural "Cottesmore’s Got Talent".

During the second half of term some children will be taking their scholarships.   We look forward to World Awareness Week, which begins on March 21st and will focus on India; and of course to the highly-anticipated music concert on March 5th.

Sports Review

All of the rugby and netball teams have played some excellent matches this term.

The U11 netball team have only lost one match so far and the Colts B team (aka Beegan’s Barbarians) have had some fantastic score lines, most notably 60-0.

The 1st XV highlight was a 50 - 7 victory against Handcross Park and a impressive win against St Christopher’s.

The swimming squad have also been working hard in the pool under the guidance of Mr Holdway and Mr Greste. After a number of close matches, 20 children of all ages have been entered into the IAPS National Trials – we are keeping our fingers crossed for the results.

The hockey season starts after half term and we look forward to some great matches – especially the mixed ones.

We have had a number of visiting Headmasters and Headmistresses during this half of term, some of whom travelled from Dorset to be with us.  After half term we will be welcoming the Chaplain from Tonbridge and also the Master in Charge from Winchester.  Everyone is welcome to attend these services and there will always be a glass of wine afterwards.

Christmas Fayre: Thank you to all of you who came and supported our Christmas Fayre in aid of Children with Leukaemia – we raised almost £1000, a terrific sum.

Staff News

We are very sad to be saying goodbye to Catriona Hepburn at the end of this term. Her fiancé Graham has returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan and has a new posting to Catterick, in Yorkshire - Catriona’s commute may be a little too far!  We wish Catriona and Graham every happiness and look forward to seeing the photos from their June wedding.

We will be welcoming Gemma Edwards to the matrons’ team in April. Some of you may know Gemma as she was the Bertlesen family’s nanny for 4 years.

Pre-Prep

The pre-prep have been working hard and enjoying themselves learning about pirates, food and the water cycle. They had a great maths workshop called Mummy Mia, with a soundtrack from the 80s.

Reminders!

Please can every Prep school child have two pairs of plain blue or black jeans in school.

Please also check that all grey trousers and pinafores are the correct length.
